I grew up in Lodi, NY, a
small town on Seneca Lake – one of the Finger Lakes. It was early on
in that growing up process that I began my organizing career. You
see, I would go out in the woods in back of my house to play, and
there I would enjoy hour after hour of finding fallen branches,
breaking them into uniform lengths, and stacking them between trees
as high as I could reach. I loved how the forest floor looked, all
tidy and neat, and I enjoyed how the wood stacks looked – an orderly
testament to my work. It wasn’t until years later, walking out in
the woods with my friend Jessie that I realized the meaning of my
youthful wood stacking. I described to Jessie what I had done as a
child, and she exclaimed “You were organizing the woods!” I
realized with a rush of understanding that she was absolutely right.
At the age of seven, I was indeed organizing the woods. If I can
organize the woods all those years ago, just imagine what I can do
for you now, with more than 21 years of experience under my belt!
After graduating from high school, I attended
Davis
College in Binghamton NY, where I received training in many areas,
including psychology and human nature. I apply these skills daily
in my work professionally organizing. In college I began my own
cleaning business. Early in my cleaning career, I realized that the
bigger the mess was, the better I liked it. I found little pleasure
in doing easy dusting and vacuuming, but I really found satisfaction
Merrie is surrounded by a mess, but not for long. Remember
Merrie's motto is "The bigger the mess, the better I like it."
in hauling out closets, garages and attics. This was all while
professional organizing was just becoming a “real” profession, so I
just thought I liked “heavy cleaning”. I now know that I liked
organizing versus cleaning. Regardless of what I called it, I spent
the next few years organizing people’s messes. Now, with over 14
years of experience in organizing some of the biggest messes in
America, my motto is still “The bigger the mess, the better I like
it.” I have also added another motto: “You can’t scare me with your
mess!” I literally get excited goose bumps at the thought of
digging into a nice, big, disorganized situation, and, just like the
woods when I was a child, clearing out the clutter, and creating
useful, peaceful beauty.
I am a wife,
and a mother of six beautiful daughters. As you can imagine, these
girls provide me with opportunities to learn and grow in all areas,
including organizing! Though they stretch me way out of my comfort
zone, it’s worth it. They continue to be a shaping force in my
becoming who I am meant to be. As a professional organizer, I can
extend this benefit to you, as well. Together, we can move you
closer to the whole person you are meant to be!!
